TITLE: Director, Industry-Business Institute (IBI)

REPORTS TO: Dean, Economic Development and Continuing Education
DESCRIPTION: The director has overall responsibility for the Industry-Business Institute (IBI). IBI functions include:
· Providing customized training services for businesses, non-profits, and government agencies;
· Operating the Retail Skills Center at Jersey Gardens Mall, which provides career training and placement services to businesses and job seekers/advancers;
· Developing and delivering industry-driven curricula;
· Leading and participating in regional initiatives, such as WIRED;
· Serving as a key college contact to the business community, and coordinating Advisory Councils;
· Serving as UCC’s focal point for implementing projects of Workforce Consortium of NJ Council of Community Colleges;
· Representing the College at statewide customized training meetings and events;
· Managing the 5th floor (THB Center for Business and Educational Advancement) at the new UCC Kellogg Building.
DUTIES:
1. Work collaboratively with Dean and RSC Director to prepare department strategic and tactical plans.
2. Market and sell all of IBI’s services, as well as promote college resources to the business community.
3. Write proposals and establish pricing.
4. Write Customized Training grant applications.
5. In conjunction with Dean and Development Office, conceptualize, write, and submit proposals to federal, state, and local private funding sources for the support of educational and training activities.
6. Prepare and manage department budgets. Monitor expenses and revenues and prepare financial reports as needed which reflect the Institute’s fiscal status and budget objectives.
7. Negotiate and write Service Agreements.
8. Work with UCC Legal Department to develop contracts for projects, as needed.
9. Assess the workplace training needs of individual clients as well as the overall local training market;
10. Lead and participate in regional initiatives such as WIRED;
11. Serve as UCC’s development team contact for the NJ Consortium of Community Colleges;
12. Serve as UCC’s member of NOTE and represent at other customized training meetings;
13. Develop, design, and implement the most effective educational and training activities to realize the goals and objectives of the Industry-Business Institute's clients;
14. Develop client training plans and schedules, work with instructors and select / develop books and materials to ensure that the client's training objectives are achieved;
15. Recruit, interview, orient, assign, and evaluate faculty and consultants for IBI assignments. Oversee an evaluation process for instructors and curriculum for IBI courses and training activities. Oversee student evaluation of offerings.
16. Supervise staff;
17. Develop appropriate partnerships with public and private organizations and agencies to advance the College's mission;
18. Chair the UCC Business and Industry Advisory Council;
19. Analyze emerging data to identify local training needs and review adult learning research to identify effective workforce services practices;
20. Attend a variety of staff, committee, and other meetings; participate in regional and state activities and organizations for developing and furthering workplace education and training;
21. Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Economic Development and Continuing Education.
EDUCATION: Master’s degree required
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 10 years in corporate training customized training, or related field. Experience should include program and curriculum development, leadership, project management, sales and marketing roles.
KEY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- History of successful sales experience in higher education and /or corporate environments.
- Broad knowledge of the corporate training function and adult learning.
- Ability to develop and execute complex plans.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with a wide variety of people.
- Leadership and supervisory skills.
- Excellent project management, administrative, and organizational skills.
- Consultative selling.
- Marketing.
- Excellent problem solving abilities
- Excellent writing skills; experience writing proposals, grants, sales letters, course descriptions, and reports.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating training programs.
- Functional with MS Office, fax, email, and office copy equipment.
- Valid Driver’s License.
