TITLE: Financial Aid Systems Analyst/Counselor
DEPARTMENT: Financial Aid Office
REPORTS TO: Director of Financial Aid
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Month; Full-Time; Flexible Hours; Some Evenings and Saturdays.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Financial Aid Systems Analyst/Counselor performs duties in the analysis, evaluation, testing, implementation, documentation and maintenance of computer system applications specific to financial aid. Under the direction of the Director this position provides technical support to end users on the use of applications, produces a variety of reports, and is responsible for the execution of a variety of technical tasks with limited supervision. The Financial Aid Systems Analyst/Counselor also serves as the liaison between IT and the Financial Aid Office to help maximize effectiveness when designing system processes and reports that meet the business needs of the office and ensures excellent service to students and their families. The Financial Aid Systems Analyst/Counselor will also have knowledge of standard financial aid processing systems, applications and verification procedures.
DUTIES:
1. Analyze business process requirements and write and implement specifications for the maintenance, enhancement and modifications of current systems.
2. Analyze and write computer programs which produce reports to fulfill federal, state and institutional compliance and reporting requirements.
3. Analyze and write computer programs which perform updates to the student information system.
4. Management of Data Exchange which includes installing Department of Education software and upgrades, troubleshooting software problems, investigating new system solutions, generating and reviewing discrepancy reports and compiling data for transmission to various federal programs.
5. Perform verification, professional judgment, needs analysis, confirms eligibility, and awards in accordance with Federal, State, and UCC policies. Counsels and advises students, families, and others on financial aid policies and procedures.
6. Update and maintain the Financial Aid Office web page.
7. Train departmental and other staff on the use of Financial Aid software as well as the student information system.
8. Review, plan and test upgrades to various systems.
9. Assist in establishing and implementing policies and procedures.
10. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor’s degree required in a field related to the position including, but not limited to, Information Systems, Counseling, Administration, etc.
2. Experience in systems analysis and/or financial aid with preference for both.
3. Experience in managing complex projects as well as knowledge of project management methodology and tools.
4. Familiarity with designing, developing, implementing and maintaining complex technical rules in support of business processes.
5. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to take initiative as well as the capacity for self direction and self-correction.
6. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
7. Must be available to work at any UCC campus, and work flexible hours, as needed.
