   About UCC - Program Coordinator - CBJTG Grant   

TITLE:    Program Coordinator, CBJTG Grant

DEPARTMENT:    Practical Nursing

REPORTS TO:    Director of Practical Nursing

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    Travel between campuses and to meetings, and hours outside of the traditional work schedule are required, including evenings, weekends, and Sunday hours.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:    Under the supervision of the Director of the Practical Nursing Program, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the grant in the expanded (evening and/or weekend) Program, including budgeting, staffing, development, scheduling, and implementation and evaluation of the curriculum.  The Program Coordinator, in collaboration with the grant director and stakeholders, ensures the successful implementation of the grant and completion of objectives and indicators for the Practical Nursing program.  The grant focuses on the retention of students at Union County College.  The Program Coordinator supervises the work of the Resource Manager.  He or she meets regularly with PN program director, faculty, and staff to review goals and objectives, assess progress, and make adjustments as necessary.  The Coordinator works with an external evaluator, as indicated. In addition, the Coordinator participates in the hiring of personnel specified in the grant, including adjunct faculty, skill lab coordinator, and tutors.  The Coordinator is also responsible for teaching in the classroom and/or clinical area, as necessary.

TYPICAL DUTIES:    In coordination with and direction of the Program/Grant Director, the Program Coordinator:

  1. Administers and evaluates the Practical Nursing curriculum in the expanded program (evening and/or weekend) in accordance with State law and regulation, and College policy.
  2. Prepares and presents written reports on grant activities and status, per an agreed upon schedule with the director, throughout the course of the grant.
  3. Recommends staffing of all faculty and staff devoted to the grant and the Practical Nursing Program to the director of the PN program.
  4. Develops appropriate schedules of course offerings for the expanded evening and/or weekend program, including theory and clinical.
  5. Serves as liaison with other departments of the College.
  6. Represents the PN program in activities that involve the program and/or grant at the state, regional, and national basis.
  7. Supervises the adjunct faculty and staff in the expanded evening and/or weekend program.
  8. Assists with the preparation and/or revision of grant-related and PN Departmental publications, for example the Student Handbook.
  9. Oversees student concerns/complaints of students and/or faculty in the expanded evening and/or weekend program.
  10. Evaluates the goals and objectives of the grant, and develops and implements alternative procedures, as necessary to promote student retention, graduation, and performance on National Licensing Examination (NCLEX-PN).
  11. Establishes and maintains effective communication and cooperative working relationships with College Administrators, faculty, staff, and public and private sector in order to accomplish the objectives of the grant and the PN Department.
  12. Reviews the curriculum for content and quality as it pertains to Practical Nursing, and makes recommendations for changes to improve student learning outcomes and success.
  13. Works cooperatively with other UCC and external programs and agencies, including UCC EMT program, Trinitas SON, Harold B. & Dorothy A. Snyder School of Nursing, UC Allied Health High School, and clinical affiliates.
  14. Oversees the human, fiscal, and programmatic resource needs for the grant and the expanded evening and/or weekend program.
  15. Assesses the need for and prepares or recommends educational programs for faculty and staff over the course of the grant.
  16. Presents periodic and final reports on data obtained throughout the implementation of the grant to the director and other designated representatives in such a manner as to comply with the grant requirements.
  17. Provides classroom and/or clinical instruction in PN courses, as necessary.
  18. Advises PN students and applicants about program requirements.
  19. Performs other duties assigned by the PN Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

1. Master’s degree in Nursing required.

2. Five years teaching experience in a Practical and/or Registered Nursing educational program.

3. Current RN licensure in New Jersey.

4. Demonstrated ability to perform in a supervisory capacity. Administrative experience in an educational setting preferred.

5. Proven ability to complete assigned tasks, and analyze and solve problems.

6. Current knowledge of nursing practice and education standards.

7. Evidence of analytical expertise to implement and evaluate grant and curriculum goals.

8. Excellent organizational, communicational, and interpersonal skills for interactions with faculty, staff, and the community.

9. Experience with grant supervision, evaluation, and documentation preferred.

10. Experience in program development, organizational development, strategic planning, and program evaluation.

11. Familiarity with Microsoft Office software applications, with an ability to create spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.

12. Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.

13. Ability to speak to audiences with confidence.

14. Valid NJ Driver’s License for travel between campuses and to clinical sites, as necessary.
