TITLE: Student Development Specialist

Grant Funded Position
DEPARTMENT: Counseling
REPORTS TO: Director of Counseling
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 35 hours per week. Flexible schedule to include day or evening schedules. Some weekend hours may be required. May be assigned to work at multiple UCC campuses. Grant Funded Position.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Responsible for programs and services offered through the Counseling Department as assigned. Assignments may require intercampus travel. This position, under the direction of the Director of Counseling, is responsible for developing student retention and student awareness of career/vocational programs.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops student retention services for designated career programs.
- Develops programs and services to promote career programs to under represented groups.
- Provides academic counseling to students in selective career programs.
- Develops student development outcomes measures for Program goals and objectives; collects appropriate data; and completes assessment of results as assigned. Recommends modifications to existing services based on outcomes.
- Maintains records/data regarding services as directed.
- Provides academic advising to students in selective career programs as directed.
- Provides assistance to students in selected programs in regard to enrollment/registration including course/program requirements, transfer articulation and dual/joint admissions agreements.
- Provides career counseling including values clarification and other strategies which support personal, academic and vocational development.
- Develops and implements student development workshops regarding career and employment topics.
- Develops and implements personal development workshops for students as directed.
- Provides appropriate referral services to on-campus offices and to off-campus agencies.
- Provides disability advising services in regards to disability accommodations as directed.
- Prepares reports to supervisor as directed regarding services.
- Administers and interprets instruments used in career decision making including interest and personality type inventories.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Student Personnel Services or College Student Development with a Counseling Emphasis, Master’s Degree in Student Affairs Counseling, or Master’s Degree in Counseling with a College Emphasis preferred. Master’s Degree in Counseling required. Degrees must be from a regionally accredited college or university.
VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE
EXPERIENCE: Two years of post graduate experience in college counseling or college student personnel preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Must be knowledgeable of current research on college student retention.
- Must be knowledgeable regarding college student career development theories and strategies.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population.
- Must be knowledgeable regarding college counseling strategies.
- Must be able to complete objectives within assigned timelines.
- Must be able to administer and interpret instruments used in career decision-making.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Computer skills in word-processing and student information systems.
