PASSWORD CHANGE PROCEDURE

The user Password can be changed at any time during an Academic Systems session. When selecting your new password, keep in mind that it must be at least 6 characters long.  Avoid selecting common words or words that can be easily guessed.  Try selecting a password that consists of letters as well as numbers.  User passwords on UCC network are not case sensitive. You can use lower case or capital letters - the system doesn't distinguish case of letters.

1. Log in to VMS Academic Systems using your current password

2. At the $' prompt, type SET PASSWORD and hit the Enter key

3. Old Password:' prompt will be displayed on the screen. Type your current password and hit Enter

4. New Password:' prompt will be displayed on the screen. Type your new password and hit Enter.

If the system cannot accept your password (e.g. password is less that 6 characters), you will be notified and asked to select a different password; otherwise:

5. Verification: prompt will be displayed. Type your new password again to verify it and hit the Enter key.

If the system changes your password successfully, you will be returned to the $' prompt. 

If the system cannot change your password (e.g. when the verified password is mistyped), an error message will be displayed and the new password will not take effect. You will still be able to use your old password.
