   Academics - What is APL

Union County Colleges Assessment of Prior Learning (APL) program provides a method for students to earn college credit for learning that has taken place prior to enrollment at UCC.

APL allows students to design a portfolio which documents life experiences and learning that has occurred.

You may already have college-level knowledge
as a result of:

  • Military Service
  • Work
  • Workshops
  • Adult Education
  • Seminars
  • Hobbies
  • In-service Training
  • Travel study and
  • Other Life experiences

You may compile one portfolio for each course for which you want credit.

A faculty member in the field of expertise for which you are applying for credit will evaluate your portfolio.
