1. HOW TO ENTER:
Instructions:
Fill out the Official Union County College Novel Contest entry form, and attach the completed form to your project and deliver it to the designated office. Your name (the student’s name) should appear on the entry form only and all entry forms must be fully completed for you to be eligible.
Each project must have a faculty/staff sponsor*. It is the responsibility of the student to find a sponsor. You may ask your class instructor to sponsor your project.
*The Sponsor’s responsibilities are outlined on a separate
form available to all sponsors.
All projects will be accepted between Wednesday, November 16, 2005 and Friday, December 16, 2005.
Categories:
Literary Essay
The essay must be typed, double spaced in an appropriate font size for reading (Times New Roman - size 12 is suggested). All essays must be submitted as a hard copy and on disk using WORD.
The essay must deal with some aspect of one of the books (such as character, plot, style and symbolism) or one of the presentations on the theme “Literature and Music”.
Clean copies of class assignments dealing with some aspect of one of the books may be entered.
Please Note: College policies regarding plagiarism will apply to all projects submitted.
2. PRIZES:
There will be 3 prizes for best Literary Essays inspired by The College Novel, Lit Riffs or a College Novel Presentation.
Literary Essay
1 - $250 award (1st place)
1 - $100 award (2nd place)
1 - $50 awards (3rd place)
Prizes will be awarded early spring semester 2006. *
*Based on merit some prizes may not be awarded.
3. JUDGING:
College Novel Committee (CNC) Members will select the judges.
4. ELIGIBILITY:
The contest is open to current Union County College students only. In order to be eligible you must be enrolled and attending a class that is considered an Academic Course during the fall or spring semester of the contest duration. (Continuing Education Courses do not apply.)
5. GENERAL:
By participating in this promotion, entrant agrees to abide by and be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges, which are final in all matters relating to the contest. Winners will be notified by phone, mail or email during January 2006.
All taxes are the sole responsibility of winner.
Sponsor and Committee are not responsible for lost entries.
6. WINNERS:
Winners will be announced late January 2006 and the prizes will be awarded soon after.
This contest has been funded through the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
