Do I need to be an EMT before becoming a Paramedic?
Yes, you first must be a certified EMT. Most hospital sponsors require a minimum of 1 year experience prior to being accepted for sponsorship.
Can the 9 credits of general education credits be transferred from another college?
Yes, as long as that college is accredited by Middle States Accreditation and you have received a grade of “C” or better. General education credits are considered courses that are 100 level or higher. No transfer credit is awarded for institutional credits less than a 100 level. Coursework earned for a conferred degree has no expiration. Courses not applied toward a degree generally has a 10 year expiration. If you have not completed your credits; 3 must be English 101 and the remaining 6 can be your choice. I suggest that you choose something that interests you since the purpose of the coursework is to prepare you for the paramedic program.
What is the math requirement for the program?
Basic Algebra is essential to completing medication calculations. The math requirement for the program is completion of all remedial math requirements. In essence, you must be allowed to register for a Math 100 level course.
How do I obtain hospital sponsorship?
You must contact the MICU EMS Educator. Each site has a specific process, requirements, application. Hospital sponsors make their selections by April 15th of each year.
How do I apply for UCC admissions?
The best way to apply is on-line. The program code is PMDC. You will need to provide the program director an official sealed college transcript – request a copy today. You can have it mailed directly to the director, mccarthy@ucc.edu. The remainder required UCC documents will be completed at a mandatory orientation held in May. Only students that have obtained sponsorship will be invited to the orientation.
What is the cost of the program?
Students should account for 5,500 dollars. This will cover tuition, uniforms, books, and ancillary fees associated with the didactic portion of the program. The payments are made roughly in two equal payments in August and December. Financial Aid does apply for this program. Clinical sites may have additional clinical fees – this should be discussed with each individual site.
