New INS (Immigration and Naturalization Services) Regulations

Who can register for ESL classes at the IIE?

1)  New and current students that are PR - Permanent Residents, RF - Refugee, or J-1 Exchange Visitors (Au-Pairs) can register without a student visa.

2)  Current students who have F-1 visas with an INS approved I-20 can register for the fall semester.  You must be a full-time student..

3)  New students with H(Work) Visas can register for classes.

Who needs an F-1 visa from INS before registering?

1)  If you have a Tourist visa, B1 or B2, you must get an F-1 visa before you can register for classes.
