Plainfield Campus ESL Testing

Information about the ESL Placement Tests:
At the interview, the IIE instructors will decide which test is appropriate for you.There are 3 different ESL tests:
1)  Native Language Test :You cannot read or write in English. You will write a composition in your native language.  Time: ~30 min.
2)  Basic Test : You can speak, read, and write a little English. You will write a composition in English (20 min.) and take a 50-question grammar test. Time:  ~90 min.
3)  *Advanced Test : You know a great deal of English and can speak English fluently.You will write an essay in English, and take a reading and grammar test.  Time: ~2 1/2 hrs.  Students whose writing is not advanced may be moved to the Basic Test the same day.
Note: Students who need the Basic Test or the Native Language Test must take the test at the Elizabeth Campus or at the Plainfield Campus. *Only Advanced students may take the test at the Cranford Campus.

                                                  ESL Math Testing - Elizabeth Campus Only

Room assignments will be put on the IIE office door, Room 414.

• ESL students currently enrolled in levels two through five can take the ESL math placement test.
• ESL students who are currently enrolled in or finished level six must take the College’s basic skills math placement test
• New ESL students who place in level three through level six can take the ESL math placement test.
