Academics - American Sign Language Program

The American Sign Language & Deaf Studies and American Sign Language – English Interpreting Programs at Union County College are committed to the philosophy that American Sign Language is the indigenous language of Deaf people in the United States with its own unique and complex grammatical structure and collection of literature. Deaf people also share a culture, defined as common values, traditions, and behavioral norms. This linguistic and cultural group holds minority status in American society.

The American Sign Language & Deaf Studies and American Sign Language – English Interpreting Programs at Union County College promotes the highest quality interpreter education so that we may produce highly ethical and effective interpreters to work with this cultural and linguistic minority group, the Deaf Community.
