   Academics - Psychology ESL
Course Name:  PSYCHOLOGY - ESL

Course Number:  PSYE 101

The content of this course encompasses the basic topics in psychology including methodology, theoretical underpinnings and research findings.  In addition there is an emphasis on applications to daily experiences which are of interest to students, such as human relations, mental health, career choices, social and environmental issues, consumer and civil concerns, and current events.

An overriding concern is to preserve the integrity of the science of psychology by emphasizing the research preceding these conclusions and how these then apply to the personal experiences then s/he can better understand, retain, and utilize this information.  It is no longer abstract and distant knowledge.  For this purpose films, television programs, literary excerpts, magazine and newspaper items will be incorporated into the presentation for a more compelling, active embrace of the discipline.  Hopefully that will transfer to the continued interest and further study of psychology.
