The Facilities department’s mission is to help students and teachers perform at their highest level by providing a learning environment that is healthy, safe, comfortable, environmentally sound, and cost-effective to build, operate and maintain. The library addition and renovation project is a good example of sustainable design featuring the use of daylight in social and teaching spaces, energy efficient heating and cooling systems and the use of recycled materials throughout. The third floor addition to the existing library building was designed to not disturb valuable green space and to conserve the natural setting and landscaping of the campus.
Union County College provides learning opportunities to the community through evening access to quality classrooms, arts, fitness and public assembly spaces. As a three dimensional textbook, a well designed and maintained school teaches the next generation about the value and practices of environmental stewardship. The College is committed to high performance strategies by purchasing environmentally safe custodial products, by complying with State and Federal water standards and by using comprehensive energy management to conserve electricity and natural gas.
