Advanced Degrees/College Graduates - A copy of the applicant's official transcript may be required if the student plans to pursue a degree at Union County College. 
Those producing evidence of earning post-secondary degrees from accredited institutions will be considered for advanced standing placement or transfer credit evaluation if requested. Applicants holding degrees equivalent to or at advanced levels from those offered at Union will be reviewed under the same criteria. However, they may not matriculate in a related program for which they currently hold an approved degree. Those with a baccalaureate degree must take all core courses in the program of interest for the Associate degree. Those without a baccalaureate degree must satisfy standard policy for transfer students regarding the total number of credits taken at Union to be eligible for the Associate degree. 
Senior Citizens - Union County residents 65 years of age or over may attend Union County College on a space-available basis. Senior citizens are required to pay registration and general fees where applicable. Senior citizens who receive financial aid are not eligible for the tuition waiver. 
Veterans - Veterans are encouraged to enroll at Union County College under provisions of the federal laws which entitle veterans to educational benefits. To be certified for V.A. educational assistance, students must be matriculated (officially accepted into a specific program of study) in an eligible degree, certificate or diploma program. Veterans should contact the Office of Admissions located on the Cranford campus before registering for classes. 
National Guard Members of the National Guard are eligible to attend on a space available basis, once all documentation has been processed. 
Unemployed Workers These students may attend Union County College on a space available basis, tuition free (up to 12 credits) with the supporting documentation. All other fees and expenses must be paid by the student. 
Workforce Development These students are eligible to attend Union County College with supporting documentation. 
Cooperative Programs
Students interested in the entrance requirements for the Cooperative Program in Professional Nursing should write to Union County College, 1033 Springfield Ave, Cranford, N.J. 07016, for Trinitas School of Nursing and directly to Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center Schools of Nursing, Medical Imaging and Therapeutic Sciences, Park Avenue, Plainfield, N.J. 07061. Those interested in the entrance requirements for the Amplified Program in Radiography should write directly to the School of Radiography, Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, Park Avenue, Plainfield, N.J. 07061. Union County College and the University of Medicine and Dentistry, N.J. (UMDNJ) offer joint programs on the Scotch Plains campus, Raritan Road, Scotch Plains, N.J.. Information on the joint programs with University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey are available from any Union County College Admissions Office. 
Seeking Second Degrees
Students seeking second degrees in the same degree classification (i.e., a second AA, AS, AAS, CT or DP) must seek permission from the Vice President for Academic Affairs prior to pursuance of that second degree. Students seeking a second Associate degree in another degree classification (i.e., student has a AA, wishes AS or AAS) may do so under the following conditions: A minimum of 32 credits in residence or all major course work completed toward the second degree at Union County College, whichever is greater. Request for pursuing a second degree must be made to the Registrar's Office prior to official matriculation into the new degree program. This request may be made at the time of admission. In any case, with students requesting second degrees, a maximum of 32 credits of transfer work will be allowable. Students who have already received a baccalaureate degree may be granted up to 40 transfer credits into Union County College. Developmental courses cannot be used as electives. All electives in the second degree must be taken in accordance with the elective listing found in the new degree. Students will not receive transfer credit for courses taken at Union County College. 
International Students These students must obtain an International Student Packet from the Admissions Office on any campus. Housing and Financial Aid are not provided by Union County College. 
International Admissions
Applicants from other countries with foreign credentials may apply for admission as full-time matriculated students in a degree program. Applicants must submit to the Office of Admissions notarized copies of official records of past schooling and complete the foreign student application packet along with the College's application for admission. It is suggested that they be submitted at least two months before the beginning of a semester. In no case will a foreign student be accepted without the following credentials:
- Application for Admission
- Application Fee
- Official secondary school record listing courses taken and examination results (notarized photocopies are acceptable). All credentials must be translated into English by an official translating agency and certified as correct. SUBMISSION OF FORGED OR ALTERED CREDENTIALS MAY LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION OR DISMISSAL.
- Diplomas, national examinations, and university entrance examination results.
- Copy of Affidavit of Support indicating the source and ability to pay tuition, fees and living expenses while studying. (Required only for students requesting an F-1 Visa.) The Statement of Understanding must be signed by the applicant and person(s) who submit the Affidavit of Support on behalf of the applicant.
International Transfer Students Only
Official record of any college, university or other post-secondary work listing courses taken.
A Foreign Student Advisor's Report must be completed and signed by the designated school official of the school the student is attending or was last authorized to attend. No admission decision will be made until this report has been submitted.
Students who anticipate receiving transfer credit for courses taken at another college or university outside the United States, must have their transcripts evaluated by an official evaluation agency.
Since Union County College is a public-supported institution, financial aid for foreign students is not available. Therefore, we are only able to admit students who do not need financial assistance. Campus housing facilities are not available. An Affidavit of Support must be submitted along with their application for admission and all required fees. The form "I-20" required by the U.S. Immigration Office is issued only to applicants who have been accepted as full-time matriculated students. All foreign students who are in the United States on student visas are required to pay tuition at the rates established by Union County College. 
Advanced Placement
Union County College awards credit to entering students who have achieved a score of 3, 4, or 5 on the Advanced Placement (AP) Examination in course equivalents of the subject matter of the AP examination. Each department will determine the appropriate course or courses in their subject area for which such credit will be given. 
Transfer Credit
A student may transfer credits to Union County College from another accredited institution which he or she has attended. Up to 32 credit hours of advanced standing toward the Associate degree may be granted for courses which correspond in subject matter to courses offered at Union County College. Students who have previously been awarded a bachelor's degree may receive up to 40 transfer credits toward an unrelated Associate degree program. Students entering Trinitas School of Nursing Cooperative Nursing Programs at Union County College may be granted up to 22 college credits of advanced standing toward the Associate degree. Students entering Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center School of Nursing Cooperative Nursing Programs at Union County College may be granted up to 32 college credits of advanced standing toward the Associates Degree. Nursing school courses completed prior to admission are evaluated by the nursing school to which the student makes application for admission. Graduates of the Union County Fire Academy will be granted 6 credit hours of advanced standing towards an Associate degree after matriculation into the Fire Science program. In any courses offered for transfer credit, grades not lower than C (or its equivalent) must have been earned. Credits for courses accepted from another institution, institutional credits, or certificate credits will not be considered in computing the cumulative grade point average at Union County College. It is the student's responsibility to supply the College with official transcripts of all previous college work at the institutions attended.
