Consumer and Environmental Chemistry
CHE 106 300

A one-semester course primarily for non-science majors presenting as many basic concepts of chemistry as are necessary to convey an appreciative understanding of the nature of the science and its relation to life. The focus is on the interrelationships among atoms, molecules, man and his chemical products. Topics are chosen from the areas of air and water pollution, consumer products, chemical action of the body, drugs and medicines, combustion, and chemical energy.  3 lecture and 3 laboratory hours per week.  This course is offered online. 4 credit hours.  Prerequisites: ENG 099

Special Information
Testing Information:
  Weekly online quizzes and  in person proctored tests including lecture midterm exam, lab final exam and lecture final exam. All exams are scheduled at a time that is individually convenient. Union County College students are expected to come to campus for these tests. Students from other institutions who live a distance away may arrange to take proctored tests at local sites. Contact the professor for this course to make these arrangements.
Lab requirement:
  Separate registration for lab must accompany this course.  That is CHE L 106 300.  Union County College students are expected to come to campus for in person orientation and  lab kit distribution.  A $100 refundable lab kit deposit is required at orientation. Cash or checks payable to "Union County College" are acceptable.

Distant students may make alternative plans to obtain their lab kits. Contact the professor for this course to make these arrangements.

Hardware: Pentium-based or equivalent with 500 MHz or higher processor, 64 MB RAM or better and 500 MB or higher of available disk space

MS WORD 97 or higher for sending assignments as email attachments
