Consumer and Environmental Chemistry
CHE 124 300
Spring 2008
3 credit hours
Start date: 01-24-08
End date: 05-20-08

  Same as CHE 106 without the laboratory component.  Students will attend the same lectures and be responsible for the same assignments (excluding laboratory) as students in the course with laboratory. Students must meet the same prerequisites.  This course will not fulfill a college laboratory science requirement.  Primarily intended for general interest and for students who have completed the laboratory at another institution. Permission of the Department Chair required.  3 lecture hours per week. This course is offered online.  3 credit hours.

Special Information
Testing Information:
  This course is equivalent to CHE 106 without lab. Students need permission of the dept chair to take this course. Contact lind@ucc.edu.  There are two required in person meetings for all CHE 124 students:
(1) Midterm exam
(2)Lecture Final Exam.
All exams are scheduled at a time that is individually convenient. Union County College students are expected to come to the Cranford campus for these tests. Students from other institutions who live a distance away may arrange to take proctored tests at local sites. Please contact me to make these arrangements.

  Required new text: "World of Chemistry, Essentials" by Joesten, Castellion, and Hogg, 4th ed (2006) isbn # 0-495-01213-0
Course Materials (including special hardware or software):
  The technology requirements are as follows:

Java, Javascript and cookie enabled supported browser.

IE 6.0(PC), IE 5.2(Mac), Netscape 6.2.x or Mozilla 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7(PC & Mac)(AOL is NOT a useable browser for this course!)

Hardware: Pentium-based or equivalent with 500 MHz or higher processor, 64 MB RAM or better and 500 MB or higher of available disk space

Operating system: IBM/Intel: Windows 98/ /2000/XP or Apple Macintosh: Mac OS 9 or OS X 10.1, 10.2 or 10.3

MS WORD 97 or higher for sending assignments as email attachments

RELIABLE Internet Connection- A dial-up with a minimum of 28.8 modem or a T1, DSL or cable broadband connection

Email program to send and receive graphical attachments
