An Introduction to Mathematical Concepts
MAT 011 300

  A course for students whose College Basic Skills Test scores indicate the need for preparatory work in arithmetic. A comprehensive study of arithmetic and allied processes with the purpose of preparing students for algebra.  Emphasis is on the purpose and techniques of mathematics.  Topics include arithmetic operations, fractions, decimals, percents, factors, negative numbers, elementary equations. NOTE: Students may not register for courses numbered MAT 015 or higher unless they have either passed the computation portion of the College Basic Skills Placement Test or MAT 011.  Students registered for MAT 011 may not register concurrently for a mathematics course numbered MAT 015 or higher.  3 credit hours.

Special Information
Testing Information:
  Graded Homework are completed online using the software that comes with the textbook from Hawkes Learning Systems. The midterm and final exams are taken on campus and dates and times are available on the course syllabus.  Exception will be given to students who cannot come to campus due to distance, disability, time constraints, etc to arrange for a proctored exam in an appropriate site ( a local college test center, library, etc.) Students need to make such arrangements and submit the necessary college forms by the third week of the semester.

The department's exit exam will be taken on campus and followed by the department's required 10 open-question final exam component.  As the department's requirement, students must pass the exit exam to pass the course.  The date and time of this exam is given on the course syllabus.
