Business people trust Reuters. In the business of information, Reuters is credible. For over a century, Reuters has had a reputation for speed, integrity, impartiality and continuous technological innovation. The Reuters Web site, http://www.reuters.com, is a benchmark by which other sites can be judged.

When using sources for business information, look for:

1.Quality. A good business information source performs well. Its purpose, instructions and answers are clear and focused. Information is accurate and timely. In the past, people could read The New York Times business section only in the morning. Now, The New York Times on the Web, http://www.nyt.com, updates the news whenever it happens. Look for reputable hosts, names you recognize. If in doubt, double-check the information with at least one other documented source. CAUTION: The Internet is famous for providing timely information. At the same time, it is also notorious for offering misleading or incorrect information!

2.Speed. A good business information source is ready for quick use. It is easy to use. It works with a sense of urgency.

3.Change. A good business information source always changes before you see a need for change.

Business information on the Web appears in many formats:

Article databases (from many different publications)

Individual business media sites

Directories (listing companies, products, etc.)

Government documents (giving statistics, government regulations, company regulatory filings, etc.)

Company Web sites (offering company filtered information)

Annual report clearinghouses

Non-profit association Web sites (representing or serving industries)

Tutorials

Academic Web sites (often with specific subject concentration)

For-profit, promotional Web sites (often with useful, free content)

Some sites may be partially "pay-to-view."
