Wednesday May 7, 2008 - Union County College Golf Places Fourth at Garden State Tournament!

Union County College Golf continued its strong play finishing in fourth place at the Garden State Athletic Conference Tournament played Wednesday May 7th at High Bridge Golf Course in High Bridge, New Jersey. Union fired an impressive team score of 315. A.J. Antoine led all Union golfers shooting an even par 71. The score earned Antoine first place medalist honors among all golfers. In addition for Union, Gerry Onacki carded a 79 followed by Brian Halpin 82, Andrew Regenthal 83, Barry Partelow 85 and Kevin Naples 89. Union improved to 17-6 in its last three matches and added to its regular season record of 17-15-1 and 14-13-1 against Division III competition to complete the season with an overall record of 25-19-1 and a 21-16-1 record against Division III teams.

On the basis of this strong performance and qualifying five individuals, Union will compete as a team at the Region XIX Tournament which will be held May 12th and 13th at Cape May National Golf Course in Cape May, New Jersey. The five qualifiers for UCC are Antoine, Halpin, Onacki, Partelow and Regenthal. At stake next week are qualifying spots at the National Junior College Golf Tournament to be played the first week in June in Lake Chautauqua, New York.

Tuesday April 29, 2008
The Union County College Golf Team continued its strong second half showing in the 2008 season by posting an impressive 2nd place against Division III competition at a Northern Division Golf Tournament held at High Bridge Hills Golf Club in High Bridge, New Jersey. Union shot a combined team score of 328, just three points behind 1st place tournament winner Raritan Community College. Union is now an impressive 9-2 in its last two matches against Division III competition and the team has moved into a tie for sixth place with Morris County College for the right to earn a spot at the Region 19 Tournament to be held May 12th and 13th at Cape May National Golf Club. Union was led by Albert Antoine, who fired a three over par 74. Following Antoine were Brian Halpin 83, Gerry Onacki 85, Barry Partelow 86, Andrew Regenthal 87 and Kevin Naples 97. Union now has an overall 2008 record of 17-15-1 and a 14-13-1 record against Division III schools. Union next tees it up Wednesday May 7th at the Garden State Conference Tournament also to be played at High Bridge Hills Golf Club. At stake are spots to compete at the Regional Tournament to be held the following week in Cape May, New Jersey.

Monday April 21, 2008
On a cool windy April afternoon at Charleston Springs Golf Course in Millstone, New Jersey, Union County College carded a team score of 325 in a Northern Division Golf Tournament. Union’s score earned them second place honors, as the team finished just one stroke behind first place Morris County College. Union earned an impressive 6-1 record on the day and improved their overall season record to 13-13-1. Barry Partelow led all Union scorers shooting a 77. Partelow was followed by Gerry Onacki 80, Albert Antoine 80, Andrew Regenthal 88, Brian Halpin 90, and Kevin Naples 93. Next Monday, April 28th, the golf team will spend the day volunteering at the College’s annual fundraising golf tournament at Echo Lake Country Club. On Tuesday April 29th, the team will tee it up again for another Northern Division match at Highbridge Golf Course in Highbridge, New Jersey.

Monday April 14, 2008
On a bright sunny April afternoon at Ashbrook Golf Course in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Union County College carded a team score of 339 in a Northern Division golf tournament. Union’s score earned them 5th place and a record of 1-5. Middlesex County College took first place honors carding an impressive team score of 306. Middlesex was followed by Lackawanna Community College which carded a team score of 322. Most disappointing for Union was their team score of 339 was only 9 strokes behind 3rd place Morris County College. Union now has a 7-12-1 season record. Albert Antoine led all Union golfers carding a 79. He was followed by Andrew Regenthal 82, Partelow 87, Brian Halpin 91, Onacki 92 and Naples 101. Union next tees it up on Monday April 21st with another Northern Division match at Charleston Springs Golf Course(South Course) in Millstone, New Jersey. On Monday April 28th the team will spend the day volunteering at Union County College’s annual fundraising golf tournament at Echo Lake County Club.

Monday April 7, 2008
On a chilly early April afternoon at Deerwood Country Club in Westampton, New Jersey, Union County College carded a team score of 327 at the first full-field golf tournament of the 2008 season. Union’s score was good enough to land the team a record of 6-6 against all competition including wins over Division II schools Lackawanna and Salem County College. Middlesex County College earned first placing by shooting an impressive team score of 306. Andrew Regenthal lead all Union scorers shooting a nine over par 79. Regenthal was followed by Brian Halpin 81, Albert Antione 82, Gerry Onacki 85, Barry Partelow 96 and Kevin Naples 100. Union next tees it up on Monday April 14th in a Northern Division match at Ashbrook Golf Course in Scotch Plains, New Jersey

Wednesday April 2, 2008
On a windy chilly early April afternoon at Deerwood County Club in Westampton, New Jersey, Burlington County College narrowly edged out Union County College 348-350 in a two team match. On a day that featured stiff northwest winds blowing at 20mph for most of the match, Burlington’s Nick Gorman led all scorers with a 79. Following Gorman for Burlington were Dan Logan 87, Rob Grey 89, Joe Santino 93 and Brett Candler 94. Union was led by freshman Brian Halpin who carded an 82. Following Halpin for Union were Kevin Naples 87, Albert Antione 87 and Gerry Onacki 94. Union next tees it up on Monday April 7th with a full-field tournament against all competing Region 19 schools. Monday’s touranment will also be played at Deerwood Country Club.

Monday March 31, 2008
On a wet damp afternoon at Ashbrook Golf Course in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Union County College and Raritan Valley College played to a 335-335 tie. On a day that featured temperatures in the mid 40s and with a constant drizzle, Union’s sophomore Gerry Onacki led all golfers carding a 78. Following Onacki for Union were Albert Antione 80, Brian Halpin 84, Barry Partelow 93, Kevin Naples 100 and Conor Prunty with a 109. Raritan Valley was led by freshman Rob Lihepensel who carded a 79, followed by Anthony Jankowski 85, Bernie O’Brien 85, Jason Yanchuck 86, Dan Strool 86 and Dan Gunning 116. Union next tees it up on Wednesday April 2nd with a match against Burlington Community College to be played at Deerwood Country Club.
