Union County College and the Men’s Basketball Program Salute Our 2008 Sophomores

The Union County College men’s basketball program is very proud to recognize four sophomores who have all made significant contributions to the team for the last two seasons. These young men have done an outstanding job of representing the men’s basketball team, the athletic department and Union County College.

Ethan Williams
Ethan Williams has matured a great deal as a player and person during his two years at Union County College. He has played in more than 50 games during his career scoring more than 500 points. He has led the team in field goal percentage as a freshman and sophomore. As a freshman he made 52% of his shots and this season he is shooting better than 60% from the field which leads the Garden State Athletic Conference and ranks him in the Top 20 in the nation among Division 3 Junior College players. Ethan has also grabbed more than 300 rebounds in his career.

Alex Lamberty
Alex Lamberty is one of the hardest working players to wear a Union County College uniform. His dedication and commitment to the men’s basketball team will be missed. Alex has also played in more than 50 games during his career and he has scored over 500 points as well. Alex is one of the best long range shooters in the conference and has made over 130 three point field goals in his career. This season, he has made more three point field goals than any player in the Garden State Athletic Conference. He is also an excellent free throw shooter and currently ranks third in the conference making 80% of his free throws. As a freshman, Alex was selected 2nd Team All-Region XIX.

Tony Johnson
Tony Johnson has the distinction of being the only one of the 4 sophomores who was not recruited by Coach Scott and his staff. Tony showed up on the first day of tryouts last year and it has been our good fortune to have him playing at Union County College. Tony has played in over 50 games during his career and has scored 700 points. He has made more than 100 three point field goals during his career and he will finish his career with more than 200 assists. He also is consistently required to defend the best perimeter player on the other team. Tony had one of the most impressive individual performances of any player at Union County College this season when he scored 34 points with 3 assists, 7 rebounds and 2 steals in a game at Rockland Community College in December. Tony’s play on the court and his keen sense of humor off the court will be missed by Coach Scott!

Vinnie Darpino
Vinnie Darpino is the captain of the Union County College men’s basketball team. Without a doubt, Vinnie is the most dedicated, committed, loyal, hardworking player that Coach Scott has had the pleasure of coaching. Tonight’s game will be his 60th straight game that he has started for Union County College. In two seasons, he has missed one practice and that was to visit a four year college! His contributions to the men’s basketball team go way beyond numbers, but we will give you some of his statistics. He has scored more than 800 points in his career with 275 assists and 125 steals. Vinnie is the ideal student athlete and will receive his associate’s degree this May with a cumulative grade point average of 3.8. As a freshman, Vinnie was selected 2nd Team All-Region XIX.
