GOLF UPDATE – FALL 2009



Next Thursday September 24th 2009, there will be a meeting for any student thinking of joining the Union County College Golf Team. The meeting will be held in room S203 (the second floor of the science building) at 4:00pm. Planning for the golf team starts early as we need to hold tryouts to determine our golf team for the upcoming spring season. The golf team is open to any student (both men and women) that meets academic and sport eligibility requirements. In addition to these requirements, you must consistently shoot a score of 90 or better playing 18 holes of golf following all rules to be considered for the team. Friday June 5, 2009 - NCJAA National Tournament - Day #4 - Final Day

On Friday June 5, 2009 UCC sophomore golfer Albert Antoine shot a round of 86 in the last day of the National Junior Golf Championship at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York. Antoine concludes his season and golfing career at UCC with a four-day total of 324 strokes and placing 67th out of 92 competing golfers.

Thursday June 4, 2009 - NCJAA National Tournament - Day #3

On Thursday June 4, 2009, UCC sophomore golfer Albert Antoine fired a 7 over par 79 in day three of National Junior Golf Championship at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York. After three days, Antoine stands at 238 strokes. His day two total of 159 landed, him in 54th place out of 92 competing golfers. The last day of the National Tournament is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday June 5th.

Wednesday June 3, 2009 - NCJAA National Tournament - Day #2

On Wednesday June 3, 2009, UCC sophomore golfer Albert Antoine fired a 7 over par 79 in day two of the National Junior Golf Championship at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautaqua, New York. After two days, Antoine stands at 159 strokes. His day one total of 80 landed him in 54th place out of 92 competing golfers. Day three of the National Tournament is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday June 4th.

June 2, 2009:  NJCAA National Tournament - Day #1

On Monday June 2, 2009, UCC sophomore golfer Albert Antoine fired an 8 over par score of 80 in day one of the National Junior Golf Championship at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York. Day two is scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday June 3, 2009.

Albert Antoine and Timothy Stadeck were named to the second team all-region golf.

Tuesday May 12, 2009:  Region XIX Golf Championship – Final Results

The Union County College Golf Team finished its 2009 season by firing a two-day team score of 655 at the Region XIX Golf Tournament held at Cape May National Golf Club in Cape May, New Jersey. Burlington County College won the tournament shooting a two-day total of 608. Brookdale Community College was second at 631. Both of those schools will represent Region XIX at the National Junior College Golf Championship to be held June 2nd – 5th at Chautauqua Golf Course in Chautauqua, New York.

Union’s Albert Antoine fired a two day score of 151 (72, 79) to qualify as an individual competitor and he will represent UCC at the National Junior College Golf Tournament for the second consecutive year. Antoine’s score placed him in 6th place overall for all golfers competing at the Regional Tournament. Union’s Tim Stadeck fired a two day score of 156 (80, 76) and just missed qualifying for Nationals.  Stadeck finished in 9th place overall. Also scoring for Union were Jon Garcia 163 (83,80), Jason Falasco 185 (91,94) and Bruce Davis 193  (95, 98). Good Luck to Albert Antoine at the National Tournament.

Coach Dunscombe and Assistant Coach Postiglione hope to have Freshmen Stadeck and Garcia return for the 2010 golf season.  UCC finished its regular season with a 23-14 overall record and the Owls record including the Region XIX Tournament was 24-19.  

Monday May 11, 2009:  Region XIX Golf Championship 
 
The Union County College Golf Team fired a team score of 326 to finish in fourth place out of seven schools competing in day one of the Region XIX Golf Tournament being held at Cape May National Golf Club in Cape May, New Jersey. Round two is scheduled to be played on Tuesday May 12th. Teams and individuals are competing for spots in the National Junior College Golf Tournament to be held the first week in June in Chautauqua, New York. Burlington County College is leading the Regional Tournament after having scored an impressive first day team total of 299. Brookdale Community College is in second place at 310. 

 Albert Antoine shot a first round score of 72 (one over par) to lead Owl golfers. Also scoring for Union were Tim Stadeck 80, Jon Garcia 83, Jason Falasco 91 and Bruce Davis 95.


Wednesday May 6, 2009:

Albert Antoine has been named to the first team All-Garden State Athletic Conference team.


Garden State Athletic Conference Tournament – May 6th – Beaver Brook Golf Club

The Union County College Golf Team rallied late in the season to secure the 6th and final berth at the Region XIX Golf Tournament to be played next week at Cape May National Golf Club in Cape May, New Jersey. Union finished 5th with a team score of 342 at the GSAC/Del-Penn Tournament played Wednesday May 6th at Beaver Brook Golf Club in Annandale, New Jersey. Burlington County College was the winner of the Tournament, firing a team score of 314. The Owls finished with an 8-4 record (6-4 against Division III schools) and improved their overall final season record to an impressive 23-14 (17-14 against Division III schools). Albert Antoine continued his strong season, firing a round of 77. This score, enabled Antoine to finish in 5th place among Garden State golfers and won him First Team All-Garden State honors. Also scoring for Union were freshman Tim Stadeck who fired an 82 followed by Jon Garcia 90, Stewart Cook 93, Bruce Davis 100 and Jason Falasco 101. The team hits the road for the Region XIX Tournament this coming Sunday for a practice round followed by a two-day tournament on Monday May 11th and Tuesday May 12th. At stake are births in the National Golf Championship to be played June 2nd -5th at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York.

Monday May 4th Picatinny Arsenal Golf Course

The Union County College Golf Team finished in the middle of the pack at a golf match played under damp and rainy skies this past Monday May 4th at Picatinny Arsenal Golf Course in Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey. The team finished with a 3-3 record against all competition and a 2-3 record against Division III teams. The 2009 Owl overall record stands at 15-10 overall and 11-10 against Division III competition. Owl sophomore Albert Antoine, continued his strong play, and led the entire field with an Owl record score of 67. Antoine’s score was the lowest score recorded this year in Region XIX play in both the Northern and Southern Divisions and is the lowest score ever fired by a UCC golfer. Also scoring for the Golf Team were Tim Stadeck (89), Jason Falasco (92), Jon Garcia (94), Bruce Davis (95) and Stewart Cook (97). The Golf Team next tees it up this coming Wednesday May 6th at the Garden State Athletic Conference Tournament to be played at Beaver Brook Golf Course in Annandale, New Jersey. On the line for the Owls are team and individual spots for the Region XIX Golf Tournament to be played next week at Cape May National Golf Course.

Tuesday April 28, 2009: Highbridge Golf Club

After volunteering Monday at the College’s annual fundraising golf tournament at Echo Lake Country Club, the UCC Golf Team finished in the middle of a seven team Northern Division golf match at Highbridge Golf Club in Highbridge, New Jersey on Tuesday April 28th. The team shot a total of 331 for a 3-3 overall record and a 2-3 record against Division III competition. The 2009 Owl overall record now stands at 12-7 overall and 9-7 against Division III competition. Morris County College won the match firing a team total of 312. Owl sophomore, Albert Antoine fired the low round for the team with an impressive score of 72 on a hot, breezy day at the golf course. Also scoring for the Golf Team were Tim Stadeck (81), Jon Garcia (88), Stewart Cook (90), Jason Falasco (93) and Bruce Davis (95). The Golf Team next tees it up on Monday May 4th at Picatinny Arsenal in Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey. On Wednesday May 6th the Garden State Athletic Conference Tournament will be held at Beaver Brook Golf Course in Annandale, New Jersey. The team is competing for spots at the Region XIX Golf Tournament held May 11th and 12th at Cape May National Golf Course.

Monday April 20, 2009: Charleston Springs Golf Course

The Union County College Golf Team played solid golf in a rain-shortened Northern Division golf match at Charleston Springs Golf Course in Millstone, New Jersey. The team finished in second place among 8 competing schools earning itself a 6-1 record overall and 5-1 against Division III competition. Union’s overall record, for the 2009 season, improves to 9-4 overall and 7-4 against Division III competition. Owl sophomore Albert Antoine fired the low round for the team and the entire field by shooting an impressive 38 in very difficult golfing conditions. UCC freshman Tim Stadeck carded a 39 to also help the Owls finish in second place. Also scoring for the Golf Team were Jon Garcia (44), Jason Falasco (47), Bruce Davis (48) and Stewart Cook (52). The Golf Team will volunteer at the College’s fundraising tournament this coming Monday April 27th at Echo Lake Golf Club and will next tee it up on Tuesday April 28th with a Northern Division Golf Match at Highbridge Golf Club in Highbridge, New Jersey.

Monday April 13, 2009: Ashbrook Golf Match

The Union County College Golf Team opened its 2009 season by finishing 3-3 against all competition (2-3 against Division competition) in Northern Division Golf match played on Monday April 13th at Ashbrook Golf Course in Scotch Plains, NJ.  Middlesex County College finished first with a team score of 329 while UCC carded a team score of 340.  Owl Freshmen Tim Stadek had the low round for the entire field shooting a blistering 2 over par score of 74.  UCC Sophomore Albert Antoine carded a 79 to help the Owl Golf Team.  Also scoring for the Owls were Jon Garcia (91) and Stewart Cook (96). Freshman Jason Falasco (97) and Bruce Davis (101) rounded out UCC's team.  The college's next match will be Monday April 20th at Charleston Springs Golf Course in Millstone, New Jersey.

The Union County College Golf Team match scheduled for Monday April 6th at Deerwood Country Club in Westampton, NJ was postponed due to rain and storms in the area. No make-up date has been scheduled yet. The Golf Team plays a Northern Division home match this coming Monday April 13th at Ashbrook Golf Course in Scotch Plains, NJ.

Pinehurst 2009

The Union County College Golf Team returned to campus on Wednesday March 18th after playing over seven rounds of golf in rainy Pinehurst, North Carolina. The team was able to practice every day, starting at 7:00am and not ending the day until 7:00pm, despite wet and cool conditions golfing conditions. The memorable shot was hit by freshman Tim Stadeck who carded a very rare double eagle on the par 5 4th hole at Tobacco Road Golf Course on Monday March 16th. Stadeck hit a driver and a 6 iron, landing the ball in the hole on his second shot to score the rare 2.

The team will hit the practice links this coming Monday March 23rd with a round of golf at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, New Jersey. The first regular season match is scheduled for Monday April 6th at Deerwood Country Club in Westampton, New Jersey

Union County College Golf Team – 2009 Season Preview

The Union County College Golf Team will leave this coming school spring break to play some of the finest golf courses in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Team members will play 36 holes each day in Pinehurst and follow that up with three intense practice rounds of golf when the team returns home on March 19th. Everything is looking forward to the opening season match on Monday April 6th at Deerwood Country Club Westampton, New Jersey. Thirteen Division II and III teams will be competing at the April 6th match. The team plans a practice round at Deerwood Country Club upon returning from Pinehurst. The golf team this year has just one returning sophomore golfer, Albert Antoine who had an outstanding 2008 season and competed for the college at the National Junior Golf Championship held this past June at Chautauqua Golf Club in beautiful Chautauqua, New York. The 2009 Golf Team has 8 freshman competing for roster spots.

Head Coach Bill Dunscombe and Assistant Coach Marc Postiglione are always looking for eligible golfers to compete on the team. Eligible men and women, must be full-time students at Union County College during playing season, complete all academic and physical eligibility requirements and be able to consistently shoot a score of 90 to be eligible for the team.
