February 1, 2009: Donna Herran Receives national sports award
On February 1, 2009, Donna Herran; a UCC Hall of Famer, past Women's Basketball Coach, and Board of Trustee at UCC, has been nominated to receive the New Jersey Girls and Women in Sports Award for 2009. Additionally, the Garden State Athletic Conference has developed a new coaches award calling it the Donna Herran Coach of The Year Award.

UCC Men’s Soccer Alumni Continue Winning
Bloomfield College has been benefiting from the groundwork developed by the Union County College Soccer program. All American Scholarship winners; Manadee Kaba 04’, Victor Rios 05’, and Triston Sommerville 07’, along with 1st Team Region and Conference Player Jason Bryan and Evans Tagoe round out the team. All are UCC standout players who are successfully continuing their college athletic career.
Triston Sommerville, was awarded best offensive player in the region championship game and selected to the njcaa national championship all tournament team while playing, and was team captain for UCC. Currently, Triston has 7 goals and 4 assist and also holds the captain title for the Bloomfield College’s Men’s Soccer Team, who are unbeaten 5-0 in the conference and are 7-3 overall. Evans Tagoe has 7 goals and 1 assist while Jason Bryan continues to contributed with 3 assists.
Peter Falloon, Head Coach for Bloomfield College a Division II NCAA program, is a UCC Hall of Famer, who also was an assistant coach for the Owls during the 2007 season after completing his playing experience. Assisting Peter on the sidelines is Kemar McCubbin, a past player and team captain for UCC during the 06-07 season.
