The Lady Owls finished their season 11 and 10 after coming in second at the Regional Championship. Christine Bausch and Carmen Taco-Garces were named 1st Team All Region for the 2007 season. The Lady Owls are preparing for a very competitive season in 2008.

October 27 - Lady Owls Falls to Bergen In Championship Match
Union County College hosted the double elimination Region XIX Championship Tournament on Saturday. Other qualifying colleges were the the Lady Bulldogs of Bergen Community College and the Lady Panthers of Passaic County Community College.
The Lady Owls took on Passaic in the first match of the morning, winning 2 games to none. The final scores were 30-19 and 30-21. This enabled Union to advance to the next match against number one seed Bergen.
Unfortunately, UCC was defeated by the Bulldogs taking them to a third and final game only to fall short. The final scores were 19-30, 30-28, and 10-15. The loss to Bergen left UCC in a re-match with the Lady Panthers of Passaic College.
In the loser bracket championship match-up which followed the Lady Owls came out victorious once again, fighting back after a 28-30 loss in the first game. UCC went on to win the second and third games against Passaic with the final scores 30-27and 15-12. Union advanced to the championship game where they took on the Bulldogs of Bergen College in a best of five games match-up.
Now playing in their fourth straight match of the day, the Lady Owls could not hold on in the championship round, falling three games to none to the Lady Bulldogs. The final scores were 30-17, 30-25, and 30-23.
The Lady Owls ended the season on a high note as the runner up in Region XIX and finishing above .500 for the first time in history with a 10-9 record. Additionally outside hitters Christine Bausch and Diana Ortiz were named to the All-tournament team . They helped lead the team on the day with Christine contributing 39 kills and 5 aces, and Diana adding 14 kills, 6 digs, and 11 aces. Other lead scores for the Lady Owls were Gabby Maertz with 14 kills, 2 blocks, 6 digs, and 5 aces; Kari Bagniewski had 13 kills, 8 blocks, and 4 aces; Diana Lodinski added 6 kills, 4 digs, and 2 aces; and Danielle Dimperio with 42 assists, 8 digs, 2 kills, and 4 aces.
Union looks to have at least 7 freshman back for next season and will compete very well for the Region Title.
October 23 - Lady Owls Beat Lackawanna, 3-0
Union County College swept the Lady Falcons of Lackawanna College tonight 3 games to none. The final scores were 30-15, 30-16, and 30-21.
UCC was lead by Diana Lodzinski with 14 kills, 3 digs, 7 aces; Diana Ortiz 8 kills and 4 aces; Gabby Maertz had 7 kills; Kari Bagniewski added 6 kills, 2 blocks, and 4 aces; and Danielle Dimperio contributed 12 assists and 3 aces.
The lady owls finish the regular season 2nd place in the conference with a 3-3 record and 8-7 overall. This is the first time in their brief history UCC finished with a winning volleyball record. UCC will be hosting the Region XIX play-offs on Saturday, October 27th starting at 9:30 AM in the Cranford Gym. The Lady Owls will be playing in the first match of the day against Passaic County Community College, where the winner will go on to play Bergen Community College in the second match. This will be a double elimination tournament lasting four or possibly 5 matches.
October 22 - Lady Owls Defeated by Bergen, 3-0
Union County College lost Friday night to the Lady Bulldogs of Bergen Community College. The final scores were 30-14, 30-23, and 30-26. The loss allowed Bergen to slip into first place. This completed Union's 2007 regular season conference schedule. The Lady Owls finished the with a 3-3 conference record and are 7-7 overall. UCC trails Bergen by 1/2 game in the GSAC standings. Any chance for a Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) crown for Union now depends on Passaic County Community College defeating Bergen on Tuesday night Oct. 23 in Paterson, NJ. A Lady Bulldog loss would allow Union back into a tie for the GSAC Championship.
UCC was lead on Friday by: Christine Bausch with 6 kills, Kari Bagniewski with 6 kills and 3 blocks, Diana Ortiz had 5 kills, and Danielle Dimperio contributed 1 kill and 5 aces.
UCC has one final regular season non-conference game on Tuesday, October 23.It is at home in the Cranford Gym against Lackawanna College at 7pm. Last month Union defeated Lackawanna 3 games to 1 in Scranton, PA. The Region XIX Championship Playoffs are being held next Saturday Oct. 27 in the Cranford Gym at 9:30 AM.
October 19 - Lady Owls Sweep Monroe, 3-0
Union County College beat the Mustangs of Monroe College (Bronx, NY) last night three games to none. The final scores were 30-21, 30-13, and 30-6.
UCC was lead by: Christine Bausch with 11 kills, 7 aces; Danielle Dimperio with 14 assists, and 5 aces; Diana Lodzinski who added 9 kills, and 1 block; Gabby Maertz had 7 kills, 1 dig, and 2 aces; Kari Bagniewski who contributed 6 kills, 1 block, 1 dig, and 3 aces; Jessica Baigorrea had 6 aces; Jennifer Llontop had 5 aces; and Evelyn Agduelo had 5 aces.
The Lady Owls stand at 7 wins and 6 losses on the season and 3-2 in the Conference. UCC goes back to Paramus, NJ tonight to play Bergen Community College at 7pm. If they beat the Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Owls will clinch 1st place in the GSAC (Garden State Athletic Conference). This would be the first conference championship ever for this upstart program now in its third year of existence.
October 17 - Lady Owls Defeat Passaic and On Top of the GSAC!
Union County College Volleyball sits alone at the top of the GSAC (Garden State Athletic Conference) after defeating Passaic County Community College in three straight games. This avenged two earlier season losses to Passaic's Lady Panthers.
The final scores last night were 30-22 30-15 30-25.
UCC was lead by our freshmen: Christine Bausch with 19 kills, 3 digs 5 aces; Danielle Dimperio with 1 kill, 20 assists, and 1 ace; Diana Ortiz who added 5 kills, 6 digs, 1 ace, Gabby Maertz with 7 kills, 2 blocks, 4 digs, and 3 aces; and Kari Bagniewski who contributed 10 kills and 3 blocks.
The Lady Owls stand at 6 wins and 6 losses on the season and 3-2 in the Conference. Next up for the Lady Owls will be Monroe College at Bergen Community College in Paramus NJ on Oct. 18. This will be the second set of the evening and will begin after the Bergen vs. Monroe opener which begins at 6 PM.
October 16 - Lady Owls Defeated by Div. I Globe, 3-0.
The Lady Owls came up short last night against the Lady Knights of Globe Institute of Technology. The final scores of the three game sweep were 25-30,12-30 and 26-30. Globe (Div I) is the only school to sweep Union this season. They also accomplished this feat on Oct. 8 in Brooklyn. Christine Bausch had 10 kills, 2 digs, and 4 aces: Diana Ortiz had 8 kills and 1 block:. Danielle Dimperio had 22 assists and 2 aces: Diana Lodzinski. had 3 kills, 1 block, 1 dig and 1 ace: Gabby Maertz had 3 kills, 7 digs and 2 aces: and Kari Bagniewski had 6 kills, 4 blocks, 3 digs and 1 ace.
Union's record this season fell to 5-6. Tonight UCC will square off against the Lady Panthers of Passaic Community College in the Cranford gym. Game time is 7:30. The winner will be in sole possession of first place in the Garden State Athletic Conference with just one Conference game remaining.
October 14 - Lady Owls win a Tight One Against Harcum, 3-2!
On Saturday the Lady Owls dug deep and emerged on top of Harcum College (Div II) by taking the last two games of the best of five match. The scores were 30-25, 25-30, 29-31, 31-29, and 18-16. It is difficult to have a match any more competitive than this.
Christine Bausch had 15 kills and 3 digs; Carmen Taco-Garces had 5 kills, 5 digs, 6 assists, and 6 aces; Danielle Dimperio collected 5 digs, 15 assists, 6 aces; Diana Ortiz had 7 kills, 1 dig, and 6 aces; Diane Lodzinski had 3 kills Gabby Maertz had 9 kills, 1 block, 4 digs, and 2 aces; and Kari Bagniewski had 7 kills, 2 blocks, 1 dig, and 1 ace. UCC swept an injury laden Harcum team earlier in the season.
Union is now 5 wins and 5 losses on the season and remains 2-2 in Conference. They are even with Bergen and Passaic in a Conference tie for first place.
The Lady Owls will host Globe Institute of Technology (Div I non-Conference) on Monday evening at 7:00. The Owls will be without starting setter Carmen Taco-Garces who was helped off the court during the final game of this contest. She anticipates returning for the Region Finals later this month.
Please note: Tuesday's game in Cranford against Passaic CCC originally scheduled for 7:00 will be a 7:30 PM start.
The Lady Owls needed to come up big and win the last two games in order to beat the Lady Bulldogs of Bergen Community College. The final scores of the match which went all five games were: 30-15, 23-30, 20-30, 30-20, and 15-7.
October 11 - Lady Owls Defeat Bergen and Move to 1st Place!

Union was lead by Christine Bausch with 24 kills, 3 digs, and 10 aces, including 5 in the deciding game. Carmen Taco-Garces had 28 assists and 6 aces, Diana Ortiz had 9 kills and 2 assists, Gabbie Maertz had 2 kills, 1 block and 2 assists, and Kari Bagniewski added 13 kills, 1 block and 1 ace.
The win moves UCC into a three way tie for first place in the Garden State Athletic Conference. Union, Bergen and Passaic County Community College now all have 2 wins and 2 losses in Conference on the season. Union is now 4-5 overall.
Next up for Union is Harcum College. The Lady Bears will visit Union for a 10:30 AM match on Saturday October 13. Earlier this season Union swept Harcum in Brynmawr, PA.

October 8 - Lady Owls Defeated by GIT, 3-0
Union County College was defeated on Monday by the Globe Institute of Technology three games to none. The Lady Owls fought hard against the division I school, losing 24-30, 21-30, and 18-30. Christine Bausch lead the team with 17 kills; Carmen Taco-Garces had 2 kills, 2 digs, 21 assists, and 3 aces; Gabby Maertz had 5 kills, 1 dig, and 1 block; and newcomer Kari Bagnieski had 2 kills, 1 block, and 1 ace. UCC fell to 3 wins and 5 losses on the season. Union plays again tomorrow at 7pm home Wednesday Oct. 10 vs. Bergen Community College.
It is also Hispanic Heritage night at UCC!! Come to the game and also enjoy free music and food in the cafeteria from 8 PM - midnight.
October 5 - Lady Owls Lose to Paterson, 3-1
The Lady Owls lost last night in Paterson 3 games to 1 against Conference and Region rival Passaic County Community College. The scores were 25-30, 19-30, 30-15, and 25-30. UCC was lead by freshmen Christine Bausch with 23 kills and 3 aces and by Carmen Taco-Garces with 4 kills, 10 assists, and 1 ace. Union dropped to 3 wins and 4 losses on the season and is 1 and 2 in the Conference.
On Monday, October 8th, UCC will play Globe Institute of Technology at 7pm. This match will be hosted by Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, New York. September 28 - Lady Owls Take Lackawanna, 3-1

The Lady Owls climbed back to .500 on the season with a relatively easy victory over the Lackawanna College Falcons 3 games to 1. The final scores were 30-14, 30-17, 21-30, and 30-20. The contest was held in Scranton, PA.
Only freshmen played in the game. Christine Bausch had 19 kills and 4 aces, Carmen Taco-Garces had 5 kills,
Danielle Dimperio had 29 assists, 5 kills and 5 aces, Diana Ortiz had 16 kills and 1 ace, Jessica Biagarrorea had 32 assists and 6 aces, and Gabby Maertz had 5 kills.
Union is now 3 wins and 3 losses on the season and will face Garden State Athletic Conference rival Passaic County Community College on Thursday evening in Paterson, NJ. Game time is 7 PM.
September 24 - Lady Owls Rally Against Bergen

The Lady Owls traveled to Bergen Community College last night in Paramus, NJ and won their first Conference game of the season against the defending Region XIX Champion Bulldogs. UCC found itself down 2 games to none in the best of five match. Union, with its back against the wall, staged a brilliant comeback and won the last three games. The scores were 26-30, 24-30, 30-16, 30-20, and 15-5. Once again the freshman lead the way. Christine Bausch had 15 kills, 2 digs, 5 aces, Carmen Taco-Garces had 12 kills, 4 aces, Danielle Dimperio had 25 assists, 3 aces, Diana Ortiz had 5 kills, and Jessica Baigorrea had 16 assists.
The Owls are 1-1 in the Conference and Region and climbed into a first place tie with Bergen and Passaic. The Lady Owls will host Lehigh Carbon Community College at home on Thursday night and look to avenge last week's road loss. Game time is 6 PM. Immediately following that game Lehigh Carbon will face the Bulldogs of Bergen in the Cranford gym. This dual match promises lots of excitement.
September 22 - Owls Sweep Harcum College
The Lady Owls traveled to Brynmawr, PA on Saturday and swept the Bears of Harcum College 30-19, 30-21, and 30-22.
The Lady Owls played well and featured a lineup of all freshman players. Christine Bausch had 11 kills, 2 digs, and 3 aces. Carmen Taco-Garces had 6 kills, 2 blocks, 3 assists, and 3 aces. Danielle Dimperio had 3 kills, 1 dig, 2 assists, and 5 aces, Diana Ortiz had 6 kills, and 3 aces Jessica Baigorrea had 17 assists and 1 ace, Gabby Maertz had 1 kill, 2 blocks, and 1 ace.
The Lady Owls improved to 1 win and 2 losses on the season. UCC travels tonight to Bergen Community College for a 7 PM Conference game at 7 PM.
September 21 - Owls Swept by Lehigh Carbon Community College
The lady Owls traveled to Schnecksville, PA last night and were swept by Lehigh Carbon Community College three games to none. The scores were 30-26, 30-22 and 30-21.
All six UCC starters are freshman. Co-Captain Christine Bausch had 14 kills, 6 digs, 2 aces, Carmen Taco-Graces had 5 kills, 3 digs, 8 assists, 2 aces, Diana Ortiz had 5 kills, 4 digs and Gabby Maertz had 3 kills, 2 solo blocks, and 1 assisted block.
Union County College fell to 0-2 on the season.
Tomorrow Union County College will travel to Brynmawr, PA and take on the Bears of Harcum College, a Div II non-Conference rival. Game time is 1 PM. September 18 - Owls Fall to Passaic County Community College, 3-2
Last night, 9/18, the gym in Cranford was rocking as UCC staged a valiant comeback from a 2 games to nothing deficit to force a fifth and deciding game. The Panthers of Passaic County Community College held on in game five and beat the Lady Owls 15-13 and win the match 3 games to 2.
The Conference and Region Rival Panthers improved to 3 wins and 2 losses on the season. Union travels to Lehigh-Carbon Community College in Schnecksville, PA on Thursday night for a 6 PM contest.
