Monday October 27, 2008: The Women's Volleyball Team Collects Accolades. The Lady Owl’s cleaned up their championship season on Sunday finishing the season with 15-8 overall record. Aside from capturing the Garden State Athletic Conference Championship, Flavia Melendez is All-Region XIX Team and Top Player while Mabel Mansing and Mary Kate Burke were named to the All- Region Team. Melendez, Mansing and Burke also made the All Garden State Athletic Conference Team, With Mabel Mansing and Flavia Melendez being named to the All-Region XIX Tournament Team as well. Coach Sara Mankowski in her first year with the Lady Owl's was crowned Garden State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and assistant coach Ron Szotak was named Garden State Athletic Conference Assistant Coach of the Year.

Sunday Ocober 26, 2008: Defeated in Regional Tournament But Still Conference Champions
The Lady Owls concluded what could be considered their most successful season to date. The team competed in the Region XIX tournament today, playing conference rivals Passaic and Bergen County Colleges. After a loss in a tight match against Passaic, the Lady Owls came back to defeat Bergen in straight sets. The team received a strong offensive performance from the setter-hitter combination of Mabel Mansing and Flavia Melendez, connecting for 9 kills and 6 blocks. Defensively, Aura Arteta and Carla Gabrieli led the team in digs. The team then went on to face Passaic again. Though the Owls received strong support from the team bench, they fell to Passaic for the second time on the day. Despite the losses, the team can still lay claim to their first conference championship, having defeated both Passaic and Bergen with a combined 6-0 record during the regular season. Those victories were due in no small part to the net play of Alexis Easley and the defensive prowess of Steph Caffrey. Additionally, congratulations are due to Mary Kate Burke, a vocal team leader and recipient of the Region’s defensive specialist accolade. She joins Flavia Melendez and Mabel Mansing in receiving Regional honors. Flavia and Mabel were also both acknowledge for their tournament contributions today. The Women's Volleyball Team continued their slump after dropping another game 0-3 this time to Northampton. Mabel Mansing had 1 kill, 19 assists, 2 aces, and 3 digs, Flavia Melendez had 8 kills, 2 assists, 3 blocks, and 20 digs, Mary Kate Burke had 2 kills and 20 digs, Aura Arteta had 6 kills, 1 block, and 6 digs, Carla Gabrielli had 1 kill and 11 digs, Stephaney Caffrey finished with 3 assists and 11 digs, and Alexis Easley had 10 kills, 1 assist, 5 block, 1 ace, and 1 dig. The Volleyball Team is 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the conference

Saturday October 18: The Women's Volleyball Team lost 0-3 to Harcum.
The Lady Owl's were on the road as they wind down their season. This trip was to Harcum where the Lady's experienced a difficult outing losing 0-3. Mary Kate Burke had 4 kills, 2 aces, and 16 digs, Aura Arteta had 5 kills, 1 assist, 1 block, a ace, and 12 digs, Carla Gabrielli had 1 kill, 1 ace, and 14 digs, Patricia Mendes had 1 kill and 12 digs, Juaneata Lovett finished with 12 digs, Jennifer Meyra had 1 kill, 25 assists, 1 ace, and 4 digs, and Alexis Easley had 2 kills, 4 assists, 7 aces, and 2 digs. Wednesday October 15, 2008: Women's Volleyball Team Fall in Three.
The Lady Owl's had a difficult night against Northampton, getting things going offensively. They lost in three straight games 0-3 however; they did not give up defensively. Mable Mansing had 4 assists and 5 digs, Mary Kate Burke had 2 kills and 18 digs, Carla Gabrielli had 1 assist and 9 digs, Patricia Mendes had 1 kill,2 blocks, and 16 digs, Stephanie Caffrey finished with 2 kills and 12 digs, while Alexis Easley recorded 4 kills, 9 blocks, and 8 digs. The Lady Owl's are now 12-4 overall. They will have the opportunity on Wednesday October 22, 2008 to challenge Northampton again in their final game of the regular season, game time is 7:00pm in Cranford. The Lady's Volleyball Team hosted Bergen Community College on Monday night in Cranford. The Lady Owl's looked crisp and rested as the defeated BCC in three straight games. They improved their record to 6-0 in the conference and 11-3 overall. Mabel Mansing had 1 kill, 16 assists, 2 aces, and 6 digs, Flavia Melendez had 5 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces, and 10 digs, Mary Kate Burke had 1 kill, 2 aces, and 12 digs, Aura Arteta had 2 kills, 3 aces, and 8 blocks, Carla Gabrielli finished with 3 blocks, Stephanie Caffrey had 1 assist, 2 aces, and 7 digs, and Alexis Easley had 8 kills, 3 blocks, 1 ace, 2 digs. The Women's Volleyball Team traveled to Passaic County College on Wednesday and returned with a 3-1 win and a championship season. Mabel Mansing had 1 kill 28 assists, 1 ace, and 7 digs, Flavia Melendez had 8 kills, 1 assist, 1 block and 28 digs, Mary Kate Burke finished with 2 kills, 1 block, 2 aces, and 11 digs, Aura Arteta had 7 kills, 1 block, 1 ace, and 17 digs Carla ---- had 9 digs, Stephanie Caffrey had 5 kills, 5 aces, and 13 digs, and Alexis Easly completed a fabulous night recording 7 kills, 1 ace, 5 digs, and an amazing 10 blocks to propel the team to the top of the conference. The Lady Owl's came up short in their 1-3 loss against TCNJ in Cranford Monday night. The lady's were down 2 games to 0 when they won their first game however, the lady's were defeated in the next game ending their chance to comeback. Mabel Mansing had 13 assists and 1 ace, Flavia Melendez completed 7 kills, 2 assists, 8 blocks, 2 aces, and 13 digs, Mary Kate Burke finished with 19 digs, Aura Arteta had 5 kills and 6 digs, Carla Gabrielli had 8 digs, Stephanie Caffrey had 1 kill, 1 assist, 1 ace, 13 digs, and Alexis Easly had 5 kills, 5 blocks, 2 aces, and 1 dig. The Owl’s are now 9-3 overall and still undefeated 4-0 in the conference. There next game is Wednesday October 8, 2008 when they travel to Passaic County Community College. The Lady Owl's defeated Harcum in a three game sweep on thier way to setting a new school record. The Owl Volleyball Team is now 11-2 overall, the first time in team history they have won at least 11 games in one season. Wednesday October 1, 2008: Lady Owl's WIN, Championship.
The Women's Volleyball Team traveled to Bergen Community College and came home with a win and their first Garden State Athletic Conference Championship. The first championship for the Volleyball team since the program began in 2005.The Lady Owl's did not have an easy night winning 3 games to 2 in the five game match. Mable Mansing finished with 3 kills, 30 assists, 3 aces, and 11 digs, Flavia Menedez had 18 kills, 3 assist, 10 blocks,2 aces, 29 digs, Mary Kate Burke had 3 kills, 1 block, 2 aces, and 21 digs, Aura Arteta had 5 kills, 2 blocks, 5 aces, and 13 digs, Carla Gabrielli completed 8 digs, Stephanie Caffrey 5 kills, 5 aces, and 11 digs, and Alexis Easley 5 kills, 7 blocks, and 7 digs. The Owl Volleyball Team is now 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference, they will be traveling to Lackawanna Thursday night October 2, 2008.

Monday September 29, 2008: The Women's Volleyball Team Played To The End.

The Lady Owl's were triumphant in a see-saw battle in Cranford. The Women's volleyball Team beat Passaic Community College 3-2 making them 3-0 in the Conference. Mabel Mansing had 1 kill, 34 assists and 7 digs, Flavia Menendez had 18 kills, 1 assist, 7 blocks, 4 aces and 38 digs, Aura Arteta had 4 kills, 2 assists, 1 block, 3 aces and 19 digs, Carla Gabrieli had 13 digs, Setephanie Caffrey had 2 kills, 3 aces and 7 digs, and Alexis Easley finished with 11 kills, 10 blocks, 2 aces and 6 digs. The women will meet Bergen Community College on October 1, 2008 in Bergen County at 7:00pm.

Saturday September 27, 2008: The Women's Volleyball Team split tri meet road trip.
On September 27, 2008 the Lady Owl's traveled to Pennsylvania to face off against Lehigh and Luzerne Community Colleges in a tri match.
The Women won their first match against Luzerne 2-0. Mabel Mansing had 1 kill and 14 assists, Flavia Menedez had 3 kills, 3 blocks, a ace, and 14 digs, Mary Kate Burke had 1 kill, 1 assist, and 3 digs, Aura Areta had 5 kills, 7 aces, and 7 digs, Juaneata Lovett had 2 aces and 3 digs, Jennifer Neyru had 2 digs, and Alexis Easley finished with 1 assist, 3 blocks, 7 aces and 8 digs.

The lady's went on to drop the second match to Lehigh Carbon 1-2. The Lady Owl's traveled BMCC to take on two opponents in a dual match. They came home with two more match wins. In the first matched they were victorious against the Fashion Institute 3 games to 2. Mabel Mansing had 1 kill, 25 assists, 2 aces, and 6 digs, Flavia Melendez had 13 kills, 1 assist, 8 blocks, 3 aces, and 31 digs, Mary Kate Burke had 1 kill, 2 aces, and 29 digs, Aura Arteta 6 kills, and 28 digs, Carla Gabrieli had 8 digs, Steph Caffrey finished with 4 kills, 7 aces, and 28 digs, and Alexis Easley had 10 kills, 7 blocks, 2 aces, and 2 digs.

The Women's Volleyball Team continued to improve their sweeping record with a 3 game win over Bucks County College in Pa. on Monday night. Increasing their personal stats were: Mable Mansing 2 kills, 23 aces, 2 digs, Flavia Mendez 9 kills, 2 aces, 24 digs, Mary Kate Burke, 4 kills, and 10 digs, Aura Arteta 5 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace, 11 digs, Carla Gabrieli 2 aces, 9 digs, Steph Caffrey 5 kills, 3 aces, 13 digs, and Alexis Easley had 5 kills, and 1 dig. The lady's are undefeated in their last 12 straight games. They will try to improve that when they meet FIT for the second time this season and BMCC at BMCC in a dual match on Thursday September 25. Game time is 6:00pm.

Mabel Mansing had 8 digs, 1 kill, 1 ace, and 25 assists, Flavia Melendez had 18 digs, 11 kills, 4 aces, 1 assist, and 2 blocks, MarKate Burke, had 7 digs, 2 kills, and 7 aces, Aura Arleta finished with 9 digs, 6 kills, and 1 ace, Carla Gabriela had 5 digs, and 2 aces, Alexis Easley completed 3 kills, 1 ace, and 4 blocks, and Stephanie Caffrey had 9 digs, 5 kills, and 2 aces. The Owl's are now 2-0 in Conference Play, they will travel to Bucks on Monday where the first serve will be at 7:00pm.

September 10, 2008: UCC Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Again.

For the second consecutive game the lady Owl’s have swept their opponent in three straight games, in the best of five contest. They continued their improvement by defeating Passaic County College 25-22, 25-16, and 25-19, the Owl's are now 2-1 overall. Contributing to the win were Mabel Mansing with 23 assist and 6 digs, Flavia Mendez with 11 kills, 1 assist, 4 blocks, 1 ace, and 20 digs, Mary Kate Burke had 6 kills, 2 aces, and 7 digs, Aura Arteta ended with 7 kills, 1 assist, 3 aces, and 7 digs, Carla Gabrieli had 10 digs, Alexis Easley completed 3 kills, 3 blocks, while Stephanie Caffrey finished with 3 kills, 2 aces, and 11 digs. The Lady Owl's will have some time to sharpen their skills before going against Bergen Community College on Wednesday September 17 in Cranford at 7:00pm.
September 9, 2008: UCC WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL BOUNCES BACK

UCC Women's Volleyball Team bounced back with a 3-0 win over Lackawanna, in Cranford. The Lady Owl's came out determined to set their record straight, now 1-1 overall. Origionally the night was scheduled as a doubleheader gameday with Bucks, but they had to cancel. Mabel Manning finished with 11 assists and 4 aces, Flavio Mendez had 3 kills, 8 aces, 7 digs, and 1 block, Mary Kate Burke had 3 kills, 2 aces, 5 digs, and 1 assist, Aura Arleta had 5 kills, 10 aces, and 6 digs, Alexis Easley finished the night with 2 kills, 2 digs, 1 block, and 1 aces, and Stephanie Caffrey had 5 aces, 6 digs, and 1 kill. The women continue their season tonight as they travel to Paterson to play Passaic County Community College Panthers for a 7:00 pm match.

September 4, 2008: UCC Women’s Volleyball start season with a 3-1 loss

The UCC Women’s Volleyball team started the season off with a 3-1 loss to the Fashion Institute of Technology from Manhattan, New York on September 4th, in Cranford. Everyone worked together as the Lady Owls mature into a solid team. Mable Manning had 2 kills, 1 ace, 6 digs, and 23 assists. Flavia Melendez finished with 11 kills, 2 assists, 3 aces, and 23 digs. Mary Kate Burke had 8 kills, 1 ace, 15 digs, and 2 one handed kong-blocks. Aura Arteta had 7 kills, 2 assists, 2 aces, and 8 digs. Carla Gabrieli had 1 ace, and 18 digs. Patricia Mendez had 2 kills and 3 digs. Juaneata Lovett and Jennifer Neyra finished with 1 dig each. The Lady Owls look forward to stronger outcome when they challenge Lackawanna and Bucks in a Dual Match on Tuesday September 9th at 6:00pm in Cranford.

July 15, 2008: New Head Volleyball Coach Announced.
Sara Mankoski has accepted the position for head coach of the women’s volleyball program at Union County College. Coach Mankoski has several years of experience playing and coaching volleyball. She received all-county and all-state honors while participating at Westfield High School, and all-conference honors at Bryn Mawr College where she received a degree in Biology with Environmental Concentration cum laude. Over the past 8 years she has coached for the Atlantic Volleyball Club, Cranford High School, and Mount Saint Mary Academy. Congratulations to Coach Mankoski who will be a great asset to the volleyball program. |
