   Student Services - Student Volunteer Organization - Charter

Volunteer Organization Charter

I.  Consistent with the mission of the college, the volunteer organization is intended to offer students the opportunity to serve the community, while experiencing personal fulfillment and developing skills and interests that may last a lifetime.

Objectives:

  1. encourage and facilitate student participation in volunteer activities, providing students the opportunity to pursue their community interests;
  2. assist in existing volunteer endeavors; and
  3. foster positive community relations.

II.  Membership is open to all currently enrolled students.  Participation of faculty and staff is welcome.

III.  Community needs and student interests influence activities.  They may range from one-day events such as community clean-ups and food bank work to food, clothing, and toy drives or ongoing activities such as tutorial services or visits with children or the elderly.  Volunteer work connected to course study may be developed.

IV.  The structure of the organization may evolve over time and should undergo periodic evaluation and reorganization when necessary.  Student members bear the responsibility of organizing activities and events, subject to college approval.

Faculty Advisor(s) - Oversee, supervise, sign vouchers, and have final approval of student plans

President - Preside at all meetings, organize operations, and sign vouchers

Vice-President - Assume duties of the President during any absences and assist with operations

Secretary - Take minutes of all meetings and handle all correspondence with students

Treasurer - Maintain records of organization funds and handle financial matters; monies shall be kept in the individual Internal College Account maintained by the Treasurer of the Student Government Association.

General Membership - Attend meetings regularly and/or maintain monthly contact with an officer and advisor, assist in operations such as organization of activities and advertising, and participate in events. If there is a conflict with a member and a community organization and the member is determined to be at fault, that member will no longer be permitted to continue his or her membership in the UCC Student Volunteer Organization.

V.  Meetings will be held as needed per semester.  A schedule is determined by members. Alternate times for meetings will be provided to facilitate member attendance. Special meetings may be held at the discretion of the officers. Email may be used to conduct business.

VI.  Organization decisions, including allocation of proceeds are determined by majority vote of members in attendance. Robert's Rules of Order shall be followed.
