   Center for Economic and Workforce Development   

 

The Center of Economic and Workforce Development (CEWD) conducts occupational training and Adult academic education programs for the Union County Residents.

Over the last two decades the Institute has initiated and implemented career occupational training programs designed to assist Union County College students and other Union County residents to get into the workforce.  Some of the most recent program innovations have included computer/network service and repair, distance learning, computer software specialties, ESL-Data Entry, and office automation.

The student body is comprised mostly of individuals desiring short-term training programs which will enable them to obtain employment. Students will receive additional academic development in order to become competitive in the workforce participate in Center of Economic and Workforce Development (CEWD) Educational programs.

Participants in the Institute programs include students who assume responsibility for their own tuition as well as those who receive tuition assistance or grants from employers, county and state agencies and private foundations.  Most training programs include 560 hours of training. Evening programs are scheduled to accommodate those clients who work in the daytime and wish to upgrade their careers by going to school at night.  Programs are offered in the following areas; Office Skills, Secretaries / Receptionist / Word Processor, Computerized Accounting Clerk, Customer Service Specialist, Medical Unit Assistant, Computer Repair Technician, Local Area Network Technician, Computer Software Specialist, Data Entry Operator, Automated Office Support Specialist, and Home Health Care Aide.   Bilingual offerings are available in all categories.

Technology Programs are constantly updated to accommodate job market demands. Current offerings include; Windows 95, PC Fundamentals, Keyboarding, Data Entry, Computerized Accounting, Lotus 1-2-3, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access), DOS, Network Basics, and Internet.  The Center of Economic and Workforce Development (CEWD) can be reached at (908) 965-6025
