Learning Is ForEver

The LIFE Center, established in the Fall of 1984, brings college-level academic classes off-campus to senior citizen students at locations and times convenient to them.  The classes are free and courses may be taken for college credit, leading to an Associate degree.  The instructors are Union County College full-time or adjunct professors and the courses they teach are taken directly from the UCC catalog.  This program is unique in the State of New Jersey and was the first of its kind in the United States.  Since its inception, over 3,000 Union County senior citizens have taken advantage of the program.

Under the aegis of the LIFE Center are the Research Program, which provides the means and opportunities by which college students and LIFE Center students can research and document the dynamics of education and the senior citizen; the Resource Unit, a gerontological library, consisting of books, periodicals, audio-visual aids, and computer services which is available to the College community at all times; the Retired Professionals' Organization, a group of retired individuals from all walks of life who meet regularly to both discuss and act upon up-to-the-minute issues which affect them and their community; and the Senior Citizen Students Association, an organization consisting of over 900 senior students which meets four times a year and provides volunteer assistance to the college community and tutorial help to high school students throughout Union County.
