Public Safety Officer Joseph Clyburn’s commitment to duty is exemplary. During the fury of Super Storm Sandy, Joe received a frantic call from his wife requesting he come home. Officer Clyburn finished his shift and went home to his wife and son Joseph Jr., his only thought... their safety. As Sandy intensified, the roof of Joe’s residence was torn away, the combination of wind and rain caused the ceiling to collapse, completely exposing his family and home to the elements. The time was now 3:00AM. Joe knew he had to find shelter for his family. He left his two year old son in the care of a responsible neighbor. Joe then proceeded to the Elizabeth campus, where he and his wife spent the night in the car, so he could report for duty on time. Officer Clyburn has worked for Union County College for seven years, and his commitment to duty is commendable.
