Hernandez, Nina

Registrar Nina Hernandez earned her stripes as a Hurricane Hero for her work in the Elizabeth Command Center as well as her efforts to ensure that registration for the Spring semester began on schedule. Ms. Hernandez spent long days in the Elizabeth Command Center, beginning on Thurs. Nov. 1, helping staff the student-and-faculty "hot line" and by assisting Recruitment’s Bea Rodriguez and Elizabeth Provost Dr. Barbara Gaba build a schedule and room assignments for the hundreds of classes that moved to Elizabeth because of the Cranford power outage. Ms. Hernandez’s other significant contribution was in ensuring that College Admissions and Registration were fully staffed and functioning at both the Elizabeth and Plainfield campuses on Mon., Nov. 5, the first day of Spring registration. She even tweaked the schedule to accommodate students whose hurricane-related problems prevented them registering that first week. "We held back a number of sections for classes that are in the highest demand," she says. "That way, students who might have had trouble coming in to register on Monday the fifth would find that we opened new class sections during the week of the twelfth."
