Head Women’s Basketball Coach
Union County College
Rahim Graham comes to Union County College with fourteen years of experience coaching girls and boys at the high school level in Hillside.
However, looking back in life, Graham has always been a student of the game. From a little boy, Graham would travel to Hillside High School games to watch the legendary Coach Silver instruct during the renowned Hillside Christmas Tournament games. In college, he would attend Mo Griffin practices during Hillside’s five year run to the State Group Two Championship game. After college, Coach Derryk Sellers allowed him to be a volunteer coach with his freshman squad.
When Graham officially became a coach, he started with the Hillside’s boys program. He coached three years as the freshman coach and four years as a JV coach. Graham’s last year as the JV coach was the last time the Hillside boys made it to the semi‐finals of the Union County JV Tournament. While coaching the boy’s program, Graham was extremely successful every year.
However, Graham’s first opportunity to become head coach was on the girl’s side. Graham took over a program that won three games in three years. During the previous year, the Hillside girl’s did not get a single victory. Their record was 0‐20.
In his first year as head coach, Graham went 13‐10. He sent most of the varsity squad from the prior season down to the JV level. Graham featured his program around three freshmen, two sophomores, and a junior. He had to be bold, demanding, and confident to make those moves in his first year. It paid off! He became Star Ledger’s Union County Coach of the Year. Graham made Hillside relevant again in Union County during his reign. Hillside went 84‐77 during that time.
Graham is currently a vice principal in the Hillside district. He promises to put forth an extraordinary effort to make his reign a successful one.
