Meet Salvador Quijada

Mathematics
Elizabeth, New Jersey
Class of 2014

Age: 20

Are you a member of any club or student group?: Yes, I am a member of Mu Alpha Theta , Psi Beta and Phi Theta Kappa.

Favorite Class at Union: My favorite class at Union County College was Differential Equations because it was the most challenging one I’ve had and I came out a champion! I loved Calculus 2 because I loved doing integrals and seeing how they would appear on a graph.

Why did you choose Union?: My sister, Nancy, came here and it was a good choice for her. For that reason, I decided to attend Union County College as well. It also made financial sense without having the burden of having to pay off loans.

What is your fondest memory so far at Union?: My fondest memory is graduating with honors alongside one of my friends, Kaycie, who also graduated with honors - it was awesome, we put so much time and effort into our studies.

Interesting fact about yourself: I had so much trouble with this question that I had to hide under my hoodie. I’m a HUGE Star Wars fan. I have a Pez collection of Star Wars characters.

What is the biggest adjustment you had to make coming to college?: My biggest adjustment was adapting my study habits to the college environment and having to wake up very early to get good parking closer to the building because it was more convenient.

Career or further education Goals: I plan to go to a four-year institution and get my Bachelor’s in Actuarial Science and Mathematics. I will then go on to get my Master’s and Ph.D.

Is there anything else we ought to know about you?: My face is on the College billboard next to the Kellogg building in Elizabeth where I will be a local celebrity.

I had a pet chicken in El Salvador named Pablo.
