All online and hybrid instructors receive training in using the Canvas Learning Management System. Training sessions are listed on the Owl’s Nest and are free and open to any Union County College employee. To teach online, however, instructors must pass a certification exam with 100% proficiency before the course begins.
Online Pedagogy Certification
All online and hybrid instructors receive training in online teaching pedagogy. Training is held completely online in a self-paced 10 hour course. The exit exam for the course must be passed at 90% proficiency before the instructor may teach online.
Training is free and open to any Union County College employee. Persons wishing to take the course for professional development credits or for personal knowledge may register for the course through the Continuing Education Department.
All courses are reviewed using a standard rubric designed and approved by the Distance Education Committee at Union County College. It combines elements from the Quality Matters rubric and the Online Learning Consortium scorecard. Courses are reviewed every three years by the Director of Instructional Design. Course Equivalency Charts are also kept on file to document seat time and activity.
All instructors are provided information each semester on how to be compliant with laws regarding privacy and disability support. The UDOIT tool is used to scan every course every semester for ADA errors.
