Dr. Jeff Gutkin is Union’s new Director of Instructional Design. He brings more than 14 years of experience in higher education in the areas of instructional design and educational technology. He is responsible for the development and delivery of Union’s distance education courses, including the coordination of the online courses and programs, and providing support for distance education students. Dr. Gutkin will also manage the Innovation Center.
Before Union, Dr. Gutkin served as the Director of Faculty Development and Innovative Educational Strategies for Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in Newark, New Jersey. In this role, he developed and served as the project manager for educational technologies including developing innovative software and hardware solutions. He supported the use of Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas, Sakai, Moodle, Blackboard, and ePortfolio Software, and provided guidance and expertise to Rutgers’ campus-wide committees.
Dr. Gutkin has worked as an instructional designer, as the Director of Academic Computing and as a Web Librarian. Dr. Gutkin earned his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with a concentration in learning, development, and instruction from the Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY). He has an M.L.S. in Library and Information Science from Queens College, CUNY and earned his B.A. in English from the College of Staten Island, CUNY.
