Where do I begin in the transfer process?
Knowing what step to take first can be overwhelming. View the semester-by-semester guide to help focus your search.
Do I need a certain number of credits to transfer?
Many institutions have a minimum number of credits that you must have completed to be considered a transfer applicant, rather than a first-time freshman. Other schools only require that you have been enrolled as a degree-seeking student at another regionally accredited college or university. These requirements ultimately vary by institution and the Admissions Office at the four-year can help provide clarity.
Completing your associate degree before transferring has several key advantages and can help you maximize credit transfer, save money on your bachelor’s, earn a nationally recognized credential in case plans change, and stand out as a strong, transfer-ready applicant to four-year schools.
When should I apply to my four-year schools of interest?
Generally, you should submit as early as you can—as long as your application is complete and polished. Applying early may give you access to more scholarships/aid and may mean you receive faster admissions decisions.
What are the transfer application deadlines
Common deadlines for a fall start date are in March and April. For a spring start it is typically October or November. Many schools will continue to accept applications after the deadline if they still have space. Reach out to the Admissions Office to inquire.
Is there a minimum GPA required to transfer?
Minimum GPA requirements differ by school and range from approximately 2.0 – 3.5, while some institutions have no posted minimum. It is possible for colleges and universities to have general GPA minimums, but for specific majors within the college/university to have higher GPA thresholds.
