Internships and Externships – Get Out There and Do It!
Experiential Learning is a crucial element to the educational experience. This idea comes from Experiential Learning Theory (Kolb, 1984). Author David Kolb divides The Experiential Learning Cycle into four distinct pieces (1984)
- Concrete Experience (The Experience)
- Reflective Observation (What Did You Learn?)
- Abstract Conceptualization (How Can You Apply It?)
- Active Experimentation (Go Do It!)
The most important piece in understanding this cycle is that every individual part must feed into the next (e.g. Active Experimentation of the observed experience cannot occur unless defined learning outcomes are achieved).
This begs the question: where can I find internship opportunities?
